1. Le Morne, Mauritius
Le Morne is located in the southwest corner of Mauritius and has lots of wind and warm water. It’s ideal for all levels of kitesurfers. If you’re just starting out, there’s a shallow, flat lagoon. Veteran kitesurfers and those who have had a few lessons will find more challenging waves at Manawawa or One-Eye. The water conditions can change daily so be sure to check before you go. 2. Kalpitiya (Srilanka)
Kalpitiya offers many wave riding spots for keen kitesurfers. There are also places where you can go downwind, if you’re looking to travel further distances. The lagoon is protected by a peninsula. This makes it ideal for beginners, who prefer calmer waters. However, the waves to the opposite side of the lagoon will provide plenty of fun for more experienced kitesurfers.
You’ll love the culture and diversity of this tropical location once you get out of the water.
The best time to visit May-September and December-March
3. Auckland, New Zealand
You have many options for beaches in Auckland so that you can customize your kitesurfing experience. Point Chevalier in central Auckland and Te Atatu Peninsula to the west are two of the most popular spots for newbies. These beaches offer the ideal conditions for learning kitesurfing.
Shoal Bay Reserve offers beach breaks and allows you ride upwind. It’s popular with skilled kitesurfers. There are also a few spots that can be used for more experienced riders like The Spit in Glendowie. However, strong currents and occasional ferry crossings mean you need to be very careful.
The best time to visit New Zealand: All year. New Zealand can often experience all four seasons in one day. You can be sure you will be fine, but there are always risks (as with all sports).
4. Boracay (Philippines)
Boracay’s sandy beaches and tropical climate make it a favorite destination for kitesurfers. You’ll find it busy all year, so beginners should look elsewhere. However, if you are a seasoned kitesurfer, you will appreciate the steady winds, and the lively waves.

5. Maui, Hawaii
Maui’s Kite Beach, also known as Teach Beach, is a great place for beginners to learn how to kitesurf. However, it also has plenty to offer experienced kitesurfers. You can take a lesson at one of the many schools or go to the pro pool to learn more. Best time of year to visit: It is warm and steady all year, but it all depends on what you are looking for. The strongest winds blow between April and October, but the largest waves are usually found between October to April.
