If there’s one thing that everyone can collectively hate on, it’s porch pirates.
Gone are the days of ordering things online and waking up to seeing them on your porch, like a gift from you, to you! Today, we have to pretty much be glued to our windows right after clicking “checkout” because if we don’t, a package thief might come and swoop away with the package before you ever get to it!
That is a type of heartbreak no one should ever have to go through, and well, if you put in a little bit of effort, you’ll never have to, ever again!
In this post, we’ll be going over some of the best tips that you can use to make sure that your packages stay safe from porch pirates!
1. Get a doorbell camera
One of the best ways to avoid someone swiping a package off of your porch, is by keeping an eye on it. Now, that doesn’t actually mean you have to sit out there until the package arrives. It can be as simple as getting a doorbell camera! A doorbell like the “Ring video doorbell” would be a great option here! With these, you’ll get a notification every time someone’s at your door, and you can even talk to them! That way, even if someone does come to steal your package, you’ll be able to get them on video, and scare them by letting them know that you can see them! Which might just make them drop the package, and they won’t want to try again. Keeping future packages safe too.
2. Use a porch lockbox
If a doorbell camera doesn’t seem to do the trick on its own, you can even install a porch lockbox. These are boxes that you can place on your porch that usually have a lock on them. The delivery person can place your package inside, and then lock the lockbox so only you can open it! That way, even if someone tries to steal your packages, they won’t be able to!
3. Use a smart lock
If your home has a double entryway (you have one door, and then another after the entryway) that little space could work really well as a massive lock box too! Get a smart lock, one that has a pin code entry, and add the pin code to your delivery instructions. That way, the delivery person can just open the initial door, place the package inside and leave it safe and secure! You can change the pin after the delivery has been made too! If you don’t know which type of smart lock would go perfectly on your door, call Locksmith in Rochester NY, or a recommended locksmith in your general area and have them install the perfect lock on your door!
4. Request signature on delivery
Most online shopping platforms have caught on to the porch pirates and are now giving their customers the perfect way to steer clear of them. You can request a signature on delivery. That way, you’ll have to answer the door and physically receive the packages, keeping them safe from any prying eyes, or hands! The only downside is that if you’re not home, your package won’t get delivered and you’ll have to wait even longer for it to get to you!
5. Ask a neighbor to step in!
If all the techy stuff isn’t the way you want to go, there is an offline method too. You can also ask one of your neighbors to step in! If there’s anyone that lives next to your home and doesn’t tend to stay out that much, they could just keep an eye out for the delivery person and receive the package on your behalf! That way, the package will be safe and sound until you get there to get it!
